Entry Booklet contains everything you need to know about the competition
including the Entry Form Regulations and Conditions of Entry, Sections & Classes, Style
Guidelines, Instructions for Entry and a list of the Major Awards.

Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded to wines that meet judging
criteria.
Trophies are awarded to the ‘best of the best’ in a particular class or
group of classes.

Judging Conditions
Wines are judged in ‘classes’ – defined by variety and vintage – by panels of
expert judges drawn from across the Australian wine industry and supplemented by
experienced international judges and exhibitors.
The Chairman of Judges coordinates the judges into seven parts, then allocates the
classes to be judged, supervises and provides guidance during the judging
sessions.
Wine Show judging is conducted ‘on the blind’. Judges are simply presented with
a row of glasses to make their assessments.
Exhibits are judged on a point score with a maximum of 20 points as follows:

Usually wines with poor colour are rejected for defects on both nose &
palate |

Palate
A wine with an excellent nose may fall down on the palate due to excessive
acidity or tannin defects. Conversely, some wines with only a fair nose may
have excellent balance on the palate. |

None of the following instructions will in any way limit or restrict any of the
powers discretions rights and duties conferred upon the Judges by the
Regulations or the Society’s powers under the Regulations.

Judges will judge each class and on receipt of all result sheets applicable
to any one class, the Chairman of Judges shall have the points totalled and
checked. The Chairman of Judges will have the final power to arbitrate the
Awards.

No
Judge will have access to Exhibits other than the glass of each which is
placed in front of him by the Stewards.

All Exhibits will be judged on points to be allocated by each Judge from the
following maximum number of points:
Colour and Clarity 3
Bouquet 7
Palate 10
TOTAL 20

| 4. |
Awards will be made as follows:
Bronze Award 46.5 to 50.5 points
Silver Award 51.00 to 55.00 points
Gold Award 55.5 points and over
Points represent the aggregate number of points allocated by three Judges from a
maximum of 20 points awarded by each Judge.

The Chairman of Judges will have the power to disqualify or dismiss, as being
ineligible for judging, any Exhibit which, in his opinion, does not comply with
the Regulations in every respect, and such disqualification will be final.
Judges may in their absolute discretion decline to make an Award in any class.
Awards may be withheld in any class where Exhibits are considered unworthy or
where the Judges for any reason and in their absolute discretion decide that any
Award shall be withheld. |
