
The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria and the Royal Melbourne Wine Show Committee hosted the annual Royal Melbourne Wine Show Awards Presentation at the Melbourne Showgrounds on 30 October 2009.
Recognised as one of
Australia's most prestigious wine shows; the Royal Melbourne Wine Show brings together the very best wine makers and producers from throughout Australia and is renowned as a benchmark of excellence in wine production.
The Honourable Joe Helper MP, Minister for Agriculture, Minister for Small Business joined special guests, wine producers, previous medal winners, wine judges and wine enthusiasts for the announcement of the 2009 Royal Melbourne Wine Show Trophy winners. The presentations were held at the Melbourne Showgrounds to coincide with the tasting of the 2009 Royal Melbourne Wine Show exhibits.
The feature awards presented were;
The Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for the Best Red Wine in the 2008 Vintage Year awarded to Eden Road Wines for their ‘Long Road’ Hilltops Shiraz 2008. Eden Road Wines winemaker Nick Spencer took out the Jimmy Watson Scholarship of $15,000.
The Premiers Gold Trophy for the Best Victorian Fortified Wine in Show awarded to Morris Wines for their Morris Vintage Port 1998.
The Francois De Castella Trophy for the Best Young White Wine presented by the Victorian Wine Industry Association was awarded to Penfolds Wines Reserve Bin A Chardonnay 2008.
The Douglas Seabrook Best Single Trophy awarded to Giant Steeps/Innocent Bystander for their Giant Steps Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay 2008.
